3. In The Five.... it says "all endings are also beginnings." What does this mean: How has it been true in your life?

4. Throughout the novel, we learn about Eddie by hearing about various birthdays. What do these birthdays teach us about him? What do they add to the story? Why did Albom choose birthdays for this purpose?

5. What affect did counting down the final minutes of Eddie's life have on you?

6. The five people are not necessarily who Eddie would have expected to meet. What might Albom be saying about the way our lives touch other lives and what is significant?

7. What is your reaction to the Blue Man's story?

8. The old woman tells Eddie, "you have peace when you make it with yourself". Do you believe this is true?

9. Who are the 5 people you will meet? (You knew that one was coming right?)

Too many questions? Just do 1&2 and choose 4 others.

April 2009

12th meeting

Thank you Dana for hosting our small reading group on Tuesday, April 28th.

Members present were: Julie Miller, Jaime Curtis, Karen Skidmore and Dana Skidmore. (Plus, Cosette Curtis).

Our read for this month was The Shack by William Young. A story about Mack, a man whose family suffers a brutal tragedy. After a few years he receives an invitation from God to meet him at the shack . Mack goes and works through the meaning of suffering as he spends the weekend with the Trinity.

Unfortunately, 75-word responses were not available. We may re-do this book another time, when more reading group memebers can participate.

We did rate the book
Jaime -5
Julie-8
Karen -6
Dana -7
The average 6.5 which would put it between Front Porch Tales and Come On, People!.However, because we may re-do, we will not enter it into our book rating list just yet.

Cosette read us a short story that she had learned. Something about a girl, a man and the rain :)

Our schedule looks like this:

May 26th 8pm, Mitch Albom, The Five People You Meet in Heaven. Also, if you are so inclined because the book is small, you could look up 2 other books by this author, Tuesdays with Morrie or For One More Day. (Karen) This is at Julie's house.

June 30th 8pm, Richard C. Davids, The Man who moved a mountain. TBA

July 28th 8pm, C.S. Lewis, The Silver Chair TBA

August 25th 8pm, Ted DeKker, When Heaven Weeps TBA

December, 2008

10th meeting

A small, (very small) group of our members enjoyed seeing the play at Cumberland Theatre on Sunday, December 7.

Karen and Kristin Skidmore and Jaime Curtis met at Ruby Tuesdays for our book discussion. Which we must admit, turned into a very nice mother-daughter-sister time that we never would have planned on our own. Funny how some things turn out :)

That does it for 2008 folks! Thanks for being part of our discussion group. My apologies to Julie Miller and Krista Culler who never did get to facilitate for their offered books. Maybe next year.

Speaking of next year, we will tentatively meet at Karen's on January 27th at 8pm. We will be organizing ourselves for 2009. Hope to see you there.

Have a Merry Christmas and a Great New Year!

November, 2008

9th meeting

November's meeting had to be cancelled also. Gotta love Western Maryland in the winter...hey, technically, it's still fall! What's up with that?

We agreed to meet at Ruby Tuesdays in LaVale after we see the Cumberland Theatre production of "A Christmas Carol" on December 7, at 2:00.
